Amazon has recalled about 2,900 Amazon Basics 55-pound adjustable dumbbells because the weight plates can fail to fully engage during adjustment and dislodge from the handle during use, posing an impact hazard to users (CPSC Recall Notice, No. 26-486 (May 14, 2026)).
Incidents and injuries. Amazon has received eight reports of weight plates failing to engage completely and detaching during use. No injuries have been reported in connection with the issue.
Product description. The recall involves Amazon Basics 55 Lbs. Adjustable Dumbbells sold in pairs or as single units. The dumbbells are black and include handles, weight plates, and a molded plastic tray. They are designed to adjust from 5 to 55 pounds using manual adjustment knobs while the weights are nested in the base. The affected units can be identified by manufacturing lot code C250306VJAW5, which is printed on the outer cardboard packaging.
The products were manufactured in China and imported by Amazon.com Services LLC, of Seattle, Washington. The dumbbells were sold on Amazon.com from July 2025 through September 2025 at prices ranging from $170 to $320.
Remedy. Consumers are advised to stop using the recalled dumbbells immediately. The remedy provided is a full refund. To receive the refund, consumers must register for the recall and follow instructions provided by Amazon, including returning the dumbbell handle using a prepaid shipping label. Once the returned item is received, Amazon will issue a refund to the original form of payment or provide an Amazon gift card.
