The Senate Armed Services Committee has scheduled a hearing for next Thursday to consider the nomination of Joshua Rudd to become the next director of the National Security Agency and commander of U.S. Cyber Command (CYBERCOM).

Mr. Rudd, an Army lieutenant general and deputy director of the U.S. Indo-Pacific Command, was nominated for the posts by President Trump in December.

The hearing is scheduled for 9:30 a.m. in Room SD-G50 of the Dirksen Senate Office Building.

A single officer leads NSA and CYBERCOM in a “dual-hat” arrangement that reflects the organizations’ closely aligned missions. The previous leader, Timothy Haugh, was fired last April after 15 months on the job in a controversial move that was blamed on Laura Loomer, an unofficial White House adviser who claimed Mr. Haugh had been “disloyal” (CPR, April 4, 2025).
