Cybersecurity Policy Report, U.K.’s ICO to Transition to ‘Information Commission’, (Sep 16, 2026)
By Tony Foley
The United Kingdom’s Information Commissioner’s Office (ICO) confirmed yesterday that it would become the Information Commission on Sept. 30.
In a news release, ICO said the transition resulted from provisions in the Data (Use and Access) Act (DUAA) that made changes to the organization’s governance structure while maintaining existing regulatory functions and responsibilities. In July, the ICO announced the appointment of the seven non-executive members of the new Information Commission Board, who will assume their role on the date the commission officially begins operations. ICO said that throughout this period, it would remain focused on ensuring a smooth transition and continuity of service for all customers and stakeholders.
