The Italian National Cybersecurity Agency (ACN) has published a handbook that contains guidance to help organizations comply with the European Union’s Directive on Security of Network and Information Systems (NIS 2).

The handbook outlines several key obligations for NIS entities with the first deadline for implementing basic security measures for those entities set for next October. Additionally, the next deadline is for registration for 2027 and, “as every year, from January 1st to February 28th, all NIS members are required to complete or update their registration online by accessing the ACN Service Portal,” it advises.

In addition to being mandatory, registration is the “first step towards joining the constituency of NIS entities and gaining access to the support services of ACN and CSIRT Italy in a context of participatory regulation and cooperative compliance,” ACN noted.

A NIS entity that updates its information required by the NIS decree of 2024 with ACN more effectively protects the entity and the and the country’s networks and information systems, “including through enhanced analyses to safeguard the systemic relevance of the supply chain,” it added.
