Generac Power Systems is recalling about 149,400 portable generators in the United States because gasoline can leak from the carburetor during the first fill, posing a fire or burn risk. Generators that have previously been filled enough to move the fuel gauge off “E,” or that have been used without any gasoline leakage, may continue to be used. An additional 260 units were sold in Canada (CPSC Recall Notice, No. 26-407 (Apr. 16, 2026)).

Incidents and injuries. Generac reported 114 incidents of fuel leaks involving the recalled generators. No injuries have been reported.

Product description. The recall involves certain Generac portable generators with orange and black covers that are encased in a steel-tube cradle and equipped with two wheels for transport. The generators are branded “Generac,” with the unit type on the side panel and a label showing the model and serial number attached to the side of the unit. The affected models include GP3600, GP4000DF, GP6500, GP6500E, GP6500EDF, GP6700EDF, GP8000E, GP9200E, and GP9500ETF. Consumers are instructed to check their model and serial number on https://www.generac.com/about/recalls/GP-Carburetor to determine if their generator is affected.

The recalled generators were sold at Home Depot, Lowe’s, and other home improvement and hardware stores nationwide, as well as online, from May 2025 through February 2026. Prices ranged from about $600 to $1,300. The generators were manufactured in Vietnam.

Remedy. Consumers should immediately stop using the portable generator and go to https://www.generac.com/about/recalls/GP-Carburetor to see if their model and serial number are included in this recall. If the unit is included and has either not yet been filled with fuel or exhibited leakage after fueling as described above, the owner should contact their dealer to arrange for free repair at the dealer’s location.

Customer contact. For more information, customers may contact Generac toll-free at 800-396-9951 from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. CT Monday through Friday; or online at https://www.generac.com/about/recalls/GP-Carburetor or www.generac.com and click on “Important Recall Information.”
