As detailed in previous Products Liability Law Daily stories, the following Consumer Product Safety Commission actions are open for public comment until the dates indicated below. Comments may be submitted to the docket number identified in the heading of the document by any of the following methods: Federal eRulemaking Portal: Go to http://www.regulations.gov. Follow the online instructions for submitting comments. Mail/Hand delivery/Courier (for paper, disk, or CD-ROM submissions), preferably in five copies, to: Office of the Secretary, U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission, Room 820, 4330 East West Highway, Bethesda, MD 20814; telephone (301) 504-7923.

April 29, 2026. CPSC has issued a direct final rule updating the mandatory safety standard for portable hook-on chairs to incorporate by reference the most recent version of the voluntary standard, ASTM F1235-25, Standard Consumer Safety Specification for Portable Hook-on Chairs. The rule will take effect on July 19, 2026, unless CPSC receives a significant adverse comment by April 29, 2026. If such a comment is received, the Commission will publish a notice in the Federal Register withdrawing the direct final rule before its effective date (CPSC Direct final rule, 91 Fed. Reg. 15536 (Mar. 30, 2026)).

May 1, 2026. CPSC has issued a direct final rule updating the mandatory safety standard for gates and enclosures to incorporate by reference the most recent version of the voluntary standard, ASTM F1004-25, Standard Consumer Safety Specification for Expansion Gates and Expandable Enclosures. The rule will take effect on July 19, 2026, unless CPSC receives a significant adverse comment by May 1, 2026. If such a comment is received, the Commission will publish a notice in the Federal Register withdrawing the direct final rule before its effective date (CPSC Direct final rule, 91 Fed. Reg. 16162 (Apr. 1, 2026)).

June 15, 2026. CPSC is seeking information on fraudulent or abusive conduct tied to recall fraud (CPSC Notice of request for information, 91 Fed. Reg. 20138 (Apr. 15, 2026)).
