There have been 23 reported burn injuries associated with the products, including second- and third-degree burns that required skin grafts.

The Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) is urging consumers to stop using COOWALK/COOWALI heated insoles immediately due to a fire hazard posed by the products’ internal lithium-ion batteries. The agency said that the batteries can explode and ignite, even when the insoles are turned off, posing a risk of serious burn injury (CPSC Product Safety Warning, No. 26-533 (June 4, 2026)).

CPSC is aware of 26 incidents involving fires, explosions, or other thermal events linked to the insoles. Those incidents resulted in at least 23 burn injuries, including serious second- and third-degree burns that required skin grafts.

The insoles, which were sold on Amazon.com and GearTrade.com from August 2022 through May 2026, are black or red and contain a lithium-ion battery in the heel area. They are operated by a remote control. The names “COOWALK” or “COOWALI” are printed on the sole. The products were manufactured in China by Shenzhen Kubuzhineng Kejiyouxiangongsi, which CPSC said has not responded to requests for a recall or additional information.

Disposal procedures. Consumers are urged to dispose of the insoles immediately in accordance with local hazardous waste disposal procedures. The agency cautioned that defective lithium-ion batteries should not be thrown in the trash, placed in standard recycling streams, or deposited in retail battery recycling bins due to the increased risk of fire. Instead, consumers should contact a municipal household hazardous waste collection center to confirm whether it accepts defective lithium-ion batteries or devices and seek guidance from local authorities if needed.
