Antitrust Law Daily Wrap Up, CONSUMER PROTECTION NEWS: Fair Packaging and Labeling Act comment sought by FTC, (Mar 17, 2014)
The FTC is seeking public comment on its Fair Packaging and Labeling Act (FPLA) rules. The rules were last modified in 1994, and the current comment-seeking is part of its systematic review of all current FTC rules and guides.
The FPLA requires that certain products carry labels identifying the contents, source, item quantity, and other information in order to help consumers compare products. A number of products are exempt from the labeling requirements, including meat, poultry, tobacco, alcohol, and drugs under the Food and Drug Administration’s jurisdiction.
Comments, which must be received on or before May 21, 2014, can be filed electronically.
