The data release provides details on wage recoveries in several categories, including child labor, immigrant workers, and government contracts.
The Department of Labor (DOL) Wage and Hour Division announced that it has recovered more than $259 million in back wages for nearly 177,000 workers in federal fiscal year (FFY) 2025, with recoveries averaging $1,465 per worker, according to the WHD. WHD detailed its recovery of back wages, the largest such recovery since 2019, and other actions it has taken, in a new data release covering FFY 2025, which began October 1, 2024, and ended September 30, 2025.
Data release. The data release provides detailed wage recovery data in the following categories: FLSA back wages; low wage, high violation industries; outreach; child labor; Family Medical Leave Act (FMLA); agriculture; industries employing high numbers of H-2B workers; H-1B; and government contracts. WHD included data as far back as 2013 for most categories.
FFY 2025 activities. In addition to its recovery of back wages, WHD highlighted the launch of Project Firewall, which, according to the data release, protects America’s highly skilled workforce, strengthens labor standards, sharpens H-1B enforcement strategies, and prioritizes opportunities for American workers. WHD also touted the delivery of guidance to employers and workers through an improved compliance assistance hub, updated compliance videos on the Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA), and the creation of a YouTube series on the FMLA.
To assist employers in staying informed and in compliance, WHD enhanced and relaunched the Payroll Audit Independent Determination (PAID) program and opened the option to request an opinion letter. It also developed a new online contact form, updated compliance toolkits, and strengthened partnerships to make it easier for employers and workers to access information and get assistance.
