Global Daily Tax News, Romania Modernizing Corporate Tax Processes, (Jul 6, 2026)
Romania's Ministry of Finance has proposed legislative amendments to modernize the rules regarding the Tax Records Register.
The changes concern declarations, filed either quarterly or annually, by corporate income tax-payers, to share with the tax agency information that has been used to calculate corporate income tax liability.
A new draft Order proposed by the Minister would establish the model and content of the declaration and allow it to be kept either in written or electronic form.
Alexandru Nazare, Minister of Finance, said: "We are updating a rule that is over 20 years old and bringing it into a clearer, simpler form that is closer to how companies operate today. The tax register is an important technical tool for calculating corporate income tax, but this does not mean that it must remain stuck in rigid procedures or outdated formats. Allowing the completion of the register in electronic format also reduces bureaucracy, administrative costs and time lost by taxpayers with compliance obligations."
The Ministry said: "The measure is of a technical and administrative nature and aims to simplify the way of keeping tax records, without modifying the substantive rules regarding the calculation of corporate income tax. The objective is that the information necessary to determine the tax result is organized more clearly, in a format adapted to both taxpayers and the needs of tax administration."
