The Indian Government has extended the due date for taxpayers to file backlogged appeals before the Goods and Services Tax Appellate Tribunal (GSTAT).

The Goods and Services Tax Appellate Tribunals are intended as the forum of second appeal in GST law matters, and the first common forum of dispute resolution in GST disputes between the center and states and between states. The initiative is intended to ensure that there is uniformity in how GST disputes are settled across India. GSTAT was launched on September 24, 2025.

The previous June 30, 2026, deadline has now been extended to July 31, 2026, the Government announced June 30, "in view of the recent representations from various stakeholders, highlighting technical difficulties due to rush to file appeals on the GSTAT portal."

According to the Government, in the final 15 days before the June 30, 2026, deadline, 30,000 appeals were filed, with daily volumes peaking at 5,500 appeals.
