The Lithuanian State Data Protection Inspectorate (VDAI) has offered guidance on the appointment and responsibilities of data protection officers (DPOs) to help organizations understand the requirements set forth in the European Union’s General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR).
The guidance addresses the application of articles 37 to 39 of the GDPR to the obligation to appoint a DPO, what to look for when assessing a DPO’s competence, how a DPO’s independence can be ensured, and in which cases the DPO’s activities could pose a risk of a conflict of interest, VDAI said in a news release.
