Ireland’s National Cyber Security Centre (NCSC) has published guidance designed to assist public sector bodies in adopting AI (artificial intelligence) securely and with confidence.

The guidelines are part of a wider package of government support for the “responsible and secure adoption of AI across the public service,” the NCSC said in a news release.

An AI Cyber Security Risk Assessment sets forth the principal cybersecurity risks associated with AI deployments and provides concrete, actionable measures to public sector bodies for the prevention and mitigation of risks identified in the assessment, it said. The NCSC notes that the measures are deliberately flexible: “how they are applied varies with the type and complexity of the deployment, and the guidelines include worked examples to help organisations apply them in practice.”

Although the guidelines are designed for the public sector, the principles and measures they set out are applicable to all organizations.
