The Angolan data protection authority, Agência de Proteção de Dados (APD), has fined luxury hotelier Lizíria Lda. $115,000 over violations of Law No. 22/11, the Personal Data Protection Law.

The fine came after an APD investigation into the hotel’s information management protocols. According to an Aug. 15 news release from APD, the decision, issued Aug. 10, concluded that the hotel had violated articles 30-31 of Law No. 22/11 by failing to notify and obtain prior authorization from APD for the processing of its guests’ data and failing to adopt sufficiently adequate technical and organizational measures to protect the data.

ASPD noted that the penalty imposed was significantly reduced due to Lizíria’s cooperation and its commitment to improving internal processes and procedures.
