    March 24, 2026. NHTSA is seeking input on safety standards and related regulations that may no longer serve a functional safety purpose. The agency asks commenters to identify obsolete or unnecessarily prescriptive requirements that continue to impose costs, restrict design flexibility, or hinder the development of new automotive technologies (NHTSA Request for comments, 91 Fed. Reg. 2992 (Jan. 23, 2026)).
