March 16, 2026. CPSC has issued a direct final rule updating the mandatory safety standard for crib mattresses to incorporate by reference the most recent version of the voluntary standard, ASTM F2933-25, Standard Consumer Safety Specification for Crib Mattresses. The rule will take effect on May 3, 2026, unless CPSC receives a significant adverse comment by March 16, 2026. If such a comment is received, the Commission will publish a notice in the Federal Register withdrawing the direct final rule before its effective date (CPSC Direct final rule, 91 Fed. Reg. 6510 (Feb. 12, 2026)).

March 25, 2026. CPSC has received notice of a revision to a voluntary ASTM standard that is incorporated by reference into CPSC’s mandatory standard for toddler beds. If the Commission determines that the revised voluntary standard does not improve the safety of the products, CPSC will retain its existing mandatory standard (CPSC Notice of availability and request for comment, 91 Fed. Reg. 11944 (Mar. 11, 2026)).
