Cybersecurity Policy Report, New Jersey Bill Would Prohibit Sale of Minors’ Personal Data, (Sep 15, 2026)
A bill introduced this week in the New Jersey state Assembly aims to enhance data privacy protections for children under the age of 18 by prohibiting the sale of minors’ personal data and requiring mechanisms for minors or their parents to request deletion of such data.
AB 5362 would prohibit data controllers and processors from selling the personal data of any consumer they know to be a minor, regardless of the provisions in the existing New Jersey data privacy law. The bill would further require controllers and processors to provide a mechanism for minors or their parents to request the deletion of the minor’s personal data.
The bill (A.B. 5362, Reg Sess.) has been referred to the Assembly Science, Innovation, and Technology Committee. It is sponsored by Assembly member Annette Quijano (D.).
