“Would Uncle Herschel join a labor union, if given the chance? My every instinct says ‘no.’”

In this month’s Labor Pulse, Jim Castagnera explores a region of popular imagination concerning labor and work in the United States in light of the recent controversy over the planned—but ultimately rescinded—redesign of the Cracker Barrel logo, featuring the seated character of “Uncle Herschel.”

“Down the decades,” Jim observes, “Uncle Herschel came to symbolize a bygone way of life. That culture, whether his employer likes it or not, included Jim Crow and Right to Work. To learn more about these developments, enjoy Jim’s latest Labor Pulse article, “Why Uncle Herschel Got His Job Back.”
