There have been several reports of consumers experiencing breathing difficulties or loss of consciousness, and one lawsuit alleges that the product caused a drowning death.
The Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) is urging consumers to stop using OUSPT Full Face Snorkel Masks due to a risk of serious injury or death. According to the agency, the masks can cause users to experience labored breathing, causing a loss of consciousness or excess fluid in the lungs that can lead to drowning. The masks may also allow increased levels of carbon dioxide to accumulate, further complicating a user’s ability to breathe (CPSC Product Safety Warning, No. 26-311 (Mar. 5, 2026)).
The Commission has received five consumer reports involving breathing difficulties, light headedness, or loss of consciousness while using the masks. One lawsuit has also been filed alleging that the product caused a drowning death.
CPSC reports that Field Life, the China based seller of the masks, has not responded to requests for information and has not agreed to recall the product.
Approximately 84,000 of the snorkel masks were sold on Amazon.com between March 2019 and February 2026. The masks have a glass screen and a full face breathing apparatus that covers the mouth and nose, with a snorkel pipe positioned at the top center. They were manufactured in China and are marked with “OUSPT” on the snorkel tube.
CPSC instructs consumers to stop using the masks immediately and dispose of them rather than selling or giving them away. The agency also encourages the public to report injuries or product defects through its website, SaferProducts.gov.
