About 121,680 Galanz Retro Refrigerators are being recalled because their internal electrical components can short-circuit and ignite, posing fire and burn hazards that can result in serious injury or death. The Consumer Product Safety Commission and Galanz Americas Limited Company announced the recall and advised consumers to stop using the refrigerators until they are repaired (CPSC Recall Notice, No. 26-649 (July 30, 2026)).
Incidents and injuries. CPSC is aware of 34 reported fires involving the recalled refrigerators. According to a local fire department report, one of the fires resulted in a fatality.
Product description. The recall involves Galanz retro-style refrigerators manufactured by Zhongshan Galanz, of China, and imported by Home Depot and Galanz Americas. The refrigerators were sold in black, blue, red, and white and measure about 58 inches high, 24 inches deep, and 21 inches wide. The 7.6-cubic-foot units feature a top freezer, three adjustable glass shelves, and one drawer. Recalled units have model numbers BCD-215V-62H, GLR76TRDER, GLR76TBKER, GLR76TBEER, or GLR76TWEER, and date codes ranging from December 2018 through December 2020.
The refrigerators were sold at Home Depot stores nationwide and online at Amazon.com from January 2019 through September 2022 for between $330 and $520. They were manufactured in China.
Remedy. Consumers should immediately unplug and stop using the recalled refrigerators until they have been repaired. Galanz is offering a free in-home repair by a qualified technician and is instructing consumers to contact the company to schedule the service.
