There have been 40 reports of injuries, including second-degree burns.
The Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) has issued a product safety warning advising consumers to stop using certain PurSteam Elite Travel Steamers and Mighty Lil Steamers due to a significant burn hazard. The warning applies to the PurSteam Elite Travel Steamer model PS 510 purchased on or before November 30, 2020; the white PurSteam Mighty Lil Steamer model PS 550 purchased on or before that same date; and the black PurSteam Mighty Lil Steamer model PS 550 purchased at any time. The agency urges consumers to cut the power cord and dispose of the products rather than attempt to repair, sell, or donate them (CPSC Product Safety Warning, No. 26-353 (Mar. 26, 2026)).
According to CPSC, both steamer models can expel hot water from the nozzle when slightly overfilled, creating a serious risk of burn injuries. The agency has received 92 incident reports involving the PS 510 model, including 30 burn injuries, three of which were described as second degree burns. It has also received 17 reports involving the PS 550 model, including 10 burn injuries. The steamers, manufactured in China, are designed to heat water and release steam for removing wrinkles from textiles.
CPSC noted that Rapid Medical, Inc., the prior owner of PurSteam, has not agreed to conduct a recall for the PS 510 or PS 550 units purchased before December 1, 2020, or for any black PS 550 units. Aterian, Inc., which acquired certain PurSteam assets in December 2020, previously recalled the white PS 510 and PS 550 models sold after that acquisition on February 5, 2026. Consumers who bought the white models on or after December 2020 are directed to that recall for additional information.
The affected steamers can be identified by their design and labeling. The PS 510 is a white model with a triangular steam vent opening and a “PurSteam” logo beneath the water reservoir window. The PS 550 model is available in white or black and features an oblong vent opening with the logo positioned below its window. Each unit has a label on the bottom listing the model number and manufacture date, typically shown in a YYMM format.
