June 17, 2024. CPSC has issued an advance notice of proposed rulemaking on potential regulatory requirements to reduce the risk of injury associated with mechanical hazards of electric bicycles. Electrical hazards such as those related to batteries are not within the scope of the current proceeding (CPSC Advance notice of proposed rulemaking, 89 Fed. Reg. 18861 (March 15, 2024)).

July 1, 2024. CPSC has issued a direct final rule updating the mandatory safety standard for infant swings to incorporate by reference the most recent version of the voluntary standard, ASTM F2088-24, Standard Consumer Safety Specification for Infant and Cradle Swings. The direct final rule also revises the mandatory standard to include “cradle swings” to align with the voluntary standard. The rule will take effect on September 14, 2024, unless CPSC receives a significant adverse comment by July 1, 2024. If such a comment is received, the Commission will publish a notice in the Federal Register withdrawing the direct final rule before its effective date (CPSC Direct final rule, 89 Fed. Reg. 46797 (May 30, 2024) (to be codified at 16 C.F.R. pt. 1223)).
