August 1, 2024. CPSC has proposed a rule to revise the existing safety standard for cradles and bassinets to address additional hazards and provide the highest possible level of safety for infants. The proposed rule would incorporate by reference the 2022 version of ASTM’s voluntary standard for bassinets and cradles, but with modifications providing for more stringent requirements. The comment period was originally scheduled to end on June 17, 2024, but was extended by 45 days to August 1, 2024 (CPSC Notice of Proposed Rulemaking, 89 Fed. Reg. 27246 (Apr. 16, 2024); Extension of comment period, 89 Fed. Reg. 51475 (June 18, 2024)).

August 1, 2024. CPSC has received notice of a revision to a voluntary ASTM standard that is incorporated by reference into CPSC’s mandatory standard for infant bath seats. If, after considering public input, the Commission finds that the revised voluntary standard (ASTM F1967-24) does not improve the safety of infant bath seats, CPSC will retain its existing mandatory standard (CPSC Notice of availability and request for comment, 89 Fed. Reg. 58303 (July 18, 2024)).
