As detailed in previous Products Liability Law Daily stories, the following Consumer Product Safety Commission actions are open for public comment until the dates indicated below. Comments may be submitted to the docket number identified in the heading of the document by any of the following methods: Federal eRulemaking Portal: Go to http://www.regulations.gov. Follow the online instructions for submitting comments. Mail/Hand delivery/Courier (for paper, disk, or CD-ROM submissions), preferably in five copies, to: Office of the Secretary, U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission, Room 820, 4330 East West Highway, Bethesda, MD 20814; telephone (301) 504-7923.
August 24, 2026. CPSC has proposed a rule to establish a mandatory safety standard for lithium ion batteries used in micromobility products (CPSC Notice of proposed rulemaking, 91 Fed. Reg. 38162 (June 24, 2026)).
August 24, 2026. CPSC has issued a direct final rule removing or amending several provisions in its regulations that it considers obsolete or no longer necessary. The rule will take effect on September 21, 2026, unless CPSC receives a significant adverse comment by August 24, 2026. If such a comment is received, the Commission will publish a notice in the Federal Register withdrawing the direct final rule before its effective date (CPSC Direct final rule, 91 Fed. Reg. 46264 (July 23, 2026)).
