    The FCC yesterday announced that the new two-year charter for the Communications Security, Reliability, and Interoperability Council commenced on March 26. The first meeting will be held in June.

    The agency said the co-chairs were Akhil Gokul, head-technology for the Americas for Ericsson, and Sean Michael Newell, chief of the National Security Cyber Section in the Justice Department’s National Security Division.

    The FCC also is seeking nominations to serve on the council’s six working groups. Nominations should be submitted to CSRIC@fcc.gov by June 11.

    The working groups and their co-chairs are: Working Group 1–National Security Implications of the Dark Fiber Market (Thomas Ryan of Southern Co. and Chris Anderson of Lumen Technologies, Inc.); Working Group 2–Ensuring Submarine Cable Security and Resiliency (Sarah McComb of Amazon Web Services, Inc., and Grace Koh of Ciena Corp.); Working Group 3–Malicious SIM Farm Mitigation (Peter Thermos of Palindrome Technologies, Inc., and John Marinho of CTIA); Working Group 4–Reducing Common Causes of Sunny Day Outages (David Sankey of the Nebraska Public Service Commission and Mike Laskowsky of the Rural Wireless Association); Working Group 5–Expanding NG911’s Multimedia Availability and Increasing 911 Accessibility (Brandon Abley of NENA and Mike Hooker of T-Mobile US, Inc.); and Working Group 6–Enhancing Communications Network Security (which will focus on Advanced Persistent Threats and Ransomware Attacks)(Scott Poretsky of Ericsson and Martin McKee of Verizon Communications, Inc.).
