The Missouri Attorney General’s Office has announced that telemarketing company Pure Air, Inc., doing business as Air Duct Cleaning, has been ordered to cease its telephone solicitations to Missouri consumers and to pay $35,000 in fines to the state for violating Missouri’s “no call” and telemarketing laws. The company will face additional fines of up to $350,000 if it fails to comply with the circuit court’s order.

“In 2013, more Missourians complained to my office about Pure Air than any other single telemarketer,” stated Missouri Attorney General Chris Koster. “We will continue to aggressively protect consumers against telemarketers who violate our consumer laws.”

According to a previous news release, Attorney General Koster filed his complaint against Pure Air in 2013, after receiving over 1,000 complaints regarding unwanted calls from the company over a three month period. The complaint alleged that Pure Air utilized “robo-calls” to make thousands of calls to St. Louis area residents and that many consumers requested, to no avail, that the company stop calling. In addition, a representative from the company told a consumer on at least one occasion that Pure Air was not required to adhere to Missouri’s no call law.

Judgment against Pure Air was entered on May 21, 2014. Koster’s office noted that this was the first no call case brought to trial in Missouri and possibly the first to be brought by a state attorney general.
