A new interactive consultation tool allowing users to access information on personal data breach notifications was released yesterday by the Spanish data protection agency, Agencia Española de Protección de Datos (AEPD).

The tool offers a dynamic view of the main indicators associated with reported breaches, facilitating the knowledge of the data by citizens and privacy professionals, AEPD said in a news release.

AEPD has routinely published monthly breach reports with statistical information, but unlike that traditional report format, the tool adds functionalities to filter, segment, and explore information based on different criteria like sector, type of breach, or intentionality, among others.

It also allows users to select different date ranges, both to examine a specific period and to analyze the evolution of breach reports over time. AEPD said the tool would not replace its periodic reports, which will continue to be published as the “complete and consolidated documentary reference.” Rather, the tool is a complementary item that will provide greater transparency and facilitate access.
