    The Senate Commerce, Science, and Transportation Committee’s subcommittee on consumer protection, product safety, and data security has scheduled a May 8 hearing titled “Strengthening Data Security to Protect Consumers.”

    It will consider means for protecting the confidentiality, integrity, and accessibility of consumer data and safeguard data against unauthorized access, including the use of data minimization and robust data security practices.

    Scheduled witnesses are James E. Lee, chief operating officer of the Identity Theft Resource Center; Sam Kaplan, director and senior global policy counsel for Palo Alto Networks; and Prem Trivedi, director-policy for New America’s Open Technology Institute. The hearing is slated to begin at 2:30 p.m.
