Global Daily Tax News, Romania Grants Three Percent Tax Bonus To SMEs, (Jan 2, 2026)
Romania's Ministry of Finance has announced that it has started granting bonuses to small and medium-sized taxpayers who fulfilled their 2024 fiscal year tax obligations on time.
On December 21, 2025, the Ministry issued 151,150 decisions granting the credit, worth three percent of income tax liability, for filing and payment on time, with SMEs to receive a total of about RON160.2m (USD36.9m) in relief. To qualify, the SME must also have no outstanding tax debts.
Alexandru Nazare, Minister of Finance, said: "By granting these bonuses, we are sending a message that is certainly expected by the honest business environment: compliance with the rules is recognized and rewarded. Taxpayers who declare their obligations correctly and on time and pay their taxes benefit from fair and predictable tax treatment. It is a step towards a fair partnership between the state and the business environment, based on responsibility and fiscal discipline."
The Ministry said it will, in due course, grant bonuses to other categories of eligible taxpayers under law.
