The Swiss Federal Data Protection and Information Commissioner (FDPIC) announced last week that it had signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with the United Kingdom’s Information Commissioner’s Office (ICO) to enhance cooperation between the two regulators. Also last week, the information commissioner for the Isle of Man announced that it had entered into similar MoUs with Dubai and Malta.

FDPIC. On Sept. 18, the FDPIC announced the MoU with the ICO, marking the first time that the FDPIC had entered into such an agreement. The MoU seeks to encourage and intensify cooperation between the agencies, including a discussion of experiences and best practices. The FDPIC added, however, that the MoU did not impose any legal obligations on either party.

Isle of Man. On Sept. 19, the information commissioner for the Isle of Man signed MoUs with its regulatory counterparts in Dubai and Malta. Information Commissioner Alexandra Delaney-Bhattacharya said in a news release that the agreements would help the Isle of Man collaborate on joint initiatives and coordinate responses to cross-border data protection investigations. The news release noted that each of the three countries had financial services-driven economies, adding that Malta also hosts a thriving e-gaming sector.
