Global Daily Tax News, Norway Set To Remove Low Value Consignment Relief, (Dec 28, 2023)
The Norwegian tax agency has released a statement highlighting the introduction of VAT and duty on online purchases of less than NOK350 (USD34.65) from overseas.
The tax agency advised taxpayers to ensure that the online store is registered in the Norwegian VAT register (VOEC) – otherwise value-added tax and any customs duties will be added at the border. There are over 2,300 companies registered for the scheme.
In addition, goods that are correctly labeled with the VOEC number of the retailer receive simplified handling at the border and can therefore be delivered to consumers more quickly.
The list of overseas retailers and platforms registered in VOEC is available on the tax agency's website.
The removal of low value consignment relief was approved by the country's parliament, the Storting, back in 2020.
