The Nepalese Government has announced it is considering the potential introduction of a multi-rate value-added tax system.

The announcement was made in the nation's recently released 2025-26 Budget. Currently, Nepal levies a single VAT rate of 13 percent on all supplies otherwise not exempt or liable to a zero rate.

The Government has also confirmed that electronic payments will no longer attract VAT.

Other key announcements in the Budget include that tax breaks for specific sectors will be extended to hotels and resorts and to IT companies, and a new five-year income tax holiday will be introduced for start-ups with turnover not exceeding NPR100m (USD731,000).
