Hausfeld has hired Bonny Sweeny, formerly an antitrust litigator at Robbins Geller Rubman & Dowd, as a partner in its San Francisco office.
Over the last 20 years, Sweeny has represented clients in some of the most significant U.S. antitrust cases. As co-lead counsel in In re Payment Card Interchange Fee and Merchant Discount Antitrust Litigation, her work resulted in a $5.7 billion settlement. Judge John Gleeson of the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of New York praised her “skill and tenacity” in obtaining excellent results for her clients. Her move to Hausfeld comes about a month after she lost a high-profile monopolization trial against Apple in Oakland federal court.
Sweeny received her undergraduate degree from Whittier College, her graduate degree from Cornell University, and her law degree from Case Western Reserve University School of Law, where she edited the law review. She also earned a Chinese Language Certificate from the Beijing Language Institute.
"Bonny is an antitrust luminary and is overwhelmingly respected by judges, her peers in the bar, and her clients," said Hausfeld Chairman Michael Hausfeld. "Her reputation and successes precede her."
"For a long time I've admired the lawyers at Hausfeld and their antitrust practice," Sweeney said. "They have a very expansive and interesting and global competition practice, that I think is different and better than any other plaintiffs-side antitrust practice."
Hausfeld is a boutique firm specializing in antitrust litigation. Its 41 attorneys practice from locations in San Francisco, Washington, D.C., Philadelphia, London, and Brussels. Hausfeld lawyers represent corporations injured by cartels and anticompetitive activity. In addition to their corporate clients, Hausfeld’s antitrust attorneys work at the behest of the federal courts, which have appointed them to pursue recovery for victims of antitrust cartels in more than 30 cases in the last five years.
