    Intellectual property boutique Lee & Hayes has added C. Rachel Winger, Ph.D. as a partner in its Seattle office. Formerly with K&L Gates, she is a member of her new firm’s Chemical and Life Sciences practice group.

    Winger advises clients in a variety of intellectual property matters in the area of life sciences, including therapeutics and vaccines (cancer, auto-immune disease, chronic pain, wound healing, obesity, and viral and bacterial infection); diagnostics and risk detection (cancer, obstetrical complications, microbiome perturbations, in-field assays); delivery systems (formulations, carriers, nanoparticles); methods of detecting targets for therapeutic intervention; and health-related technologies (dietary supplements, exercise devices and programs). She has worked with a wide range of clients from start-ups, emerging growth companies, universities, multi-national companies, and private equity and venture capital investors.

    Working with clients on creating and commercializing their IP portfolios, Winger performs competitive analyses and assesses competitor’s IP. She performs domestic and international patent prosecution and portfolio management, patentability and freedom-to-operate assessments, due diligence, and litigation evaluation and support.

    Prior to obtaining her law degree at University of California at Berkeley, Winger earned a Ph.D. in Behavioral Neuroscience from the University of Colorado at Boulder. She is admitted to practice in Washington and California and before the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office, the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Federal Circuit, and the U.S. District Court for the Western District of Washington. Winger is a frequent speaker and author on patent law topics.
