SEIU Local 1000 represents approximately 96,000 state workers.

Voting begins Wednesday, September 9, for SEIU Local 1000 members on whether to hold an unfair practice strike related to the State of California’s alleged bad-faith bargaining during contract negotiations. Voting will end October 7.

SEIU Local 1000 filed an unfair practice charge on Wednesday, July 22, alleging that the state had failed to bargain fairly over wages, benefits, and working conditions for state workers. They allege that their bargaining team put forward proposals to improve pay, lower healthcare costs, maintain telework protections, and address other issues but, instead of seriously bargaining those proposals, the state delayed negotiations and rejected many of them at once.

Their previous three-year contract ended on June 30, 2026.
