Roughly 3,200 IAM Union members at Boeing defense facilities in two states voted on Sunday to reject a modified four-year labor agreement.

Nearly 30 years since their last strike, this weekend IAM District 837 members announced a strike that begins today after they rejected Boeing’s latest proposal in an ongoing negotiation over a four-year labor agreement.

The workers assemble and maintain advanced aircraft and weapons systems for Boeing, including the F-15, F/A-18, and missile and defense technologies, and they play a “critical role” in the nation’s defense, according to IAM District 837 Directing Business Representative Tom Boelling.

Modified proposal. On July 27, the members overwhelmingly rejected a proposal by Boeing, after which there was a seven-day cooling off period. In the meantime, Boeing presented a modified offer that withdrew an alternative workweek schedule, added an annual 50 cent per hour additive for employees at max, and, with certain conditions, offered a full $10 pension multiplier increase in Year 1, instead of $5 each in Years 2 and 3 for pension-eligible members. The modified offer did not change proposed 20 percent wage increases, the $5,000 ratification bonus, vacation or sick leave, or healthcare.
