Judge Brian R. Martinotti has been confirmed by the Senate to be a judge on the U.S. District Court for the District of New Jersey. Martinotti, whom President Obama nominated a year ago, was confirmed by a vote of 92-5 little more than a week after the Senate confirmed another district judge who was nominated the same day as Martinotti.

Most recently, Martinotti was a judge on the Superior Court of New Jersey, where over the course of 14 years he rotated through the family, environmental, and civil division dockets. Prior to becoming a state judge, Martinotti was an associate and later a partner during his 15-year career with the Montvale, New Jersey law firm Beattie Padovano, LLC. Martinotti also was a councilmember for the Borough of Cliffside Park, New Jersey, and served as arbitrator, prosecutor, public defender and tax attorney for several municipalities.

Martinotti received an undergraduate degree from Fordham University and a law degree from Seton Hall Law School. His legal career began with a clerkship for the Hon. Roger M. Kahn of the New Jersey Tax Court.
