As attorneys for the Antitrust Division, Grunes and Stucke led numerous civil investigations, worked on high-profile trials, and negotiated consent decrees involving significant divestitures across many different industries. Both attorneys are considered leading authorities on competition policy in the media, with scholarship on media and telecommunications policy published in the Antitrust Law Journal, the Northwestern University Law Review, the Connecticut Law Review, the Journal of Competition Law & Practice, and the Federal Communications Law Journal. Both have spoken at numerous conferences on competition policy and the media and are frequently quoted in the press on mergers and anticompetitive conduct.
“We are delighted that Allen and Maurice have decided to join us,” said Brad Geyer. “They add considerable fire power to our already impressive antitrust, compliance and white collar roster and give us more capabilities and capacity, particularly on the civil side.”
Grunes joins GeyerGorey from Brownstein Hyatt Farber Schreck LLP, where he was a shareholder. His practice has included advising clients on mergers and acquisitions, providing counseling on non-merger matters, and representing clients in federal court, before the federal antitrust agencies and before Congress. He has counseled dozens of companies and associations on antitrust issues and corporate mergers.
Grunes received an A.B. from Dartmouth College, his J.D. from Rutgers-Camden School of Law, and an L.L.M. from New York University. He currently serves as Chair of the Antitrust Committee of the Bar Association of the District of Columbia and is on the Advisory Boards of the American Antitrust Institute in Washington, D.C. and the Institute for Consumer Antitrust Studies at Loyola University Chicago School of Law. He was named as a “Washington D.C. Super Lawyer for 2013” in antitrust litigation, government relations, and mergers & acquisitions
Stucke is a full-time tenured Associate Professor of Law at the University of Tennessee College of Law, and will continue in that position after assuming his position at GeyerGorey. He has published extensively in a wide range of U.S. and European antitrust and competition publications, and has lectured extensively in the United States and in many other countries including China, France, Germany, the United Kingdom, and Australia.
Stucke received a B.A. from Georgetown University and his J.D. from Georgetown University Law Center. He serves as a Senior Fellow at the American Antitrust Institute (AAI) and on its Advisory Board, serves as a member of the Advisory Board of the Institute for Consumer Antitrust Studies at Loyola University Chicago School of Law, was elected to the Academic Society for Competition Law, was appointed to the Advisory Board of the Institute for Consumer Antitrust Studies, and was asked to serve as a non-governmental adviser to the International Competition Network. He was a Fulbright Fellow and lecturer at the China University of Political Science and Law in 2010.
“Allen’s and Maurice’s extensive background and expertise nicely complement our firm’s unique philosophy and enrich our competition and merger practices,” said firm co-founder Robert Zastrow. “We are thrilled they are joining our innovative effort in delivering legal services.”
“We want to attract entrepreneurial lawyers, like Allen and Maurice, who love competition policy and practicing law,” added Hays Gorey. “Having worked with them at DOJ, I am excited about the expertise and enthusiasm they bring to our clients.”
