The Greek Government has announced a series of tax reforms that are intended to provide relief in particular to households, home-buyers, farmers, and the self-employed.

The Government has confirmed that planned tax cuts for freelancers and farmers will be implemented in April and May. For farmers, this will include an increased income tax-exempt allowance of EUR20,000.

This same EUR20,000 tax-exempt allowance will be offered to families with at least three children from January 1, 2027.

Further, the Government has confirmed that it will raise the rate of transfer tax on properties purchased by third country taxpayers, from outside the EU, from three percent to 15 percent to shield the real estate market from speculation. The ENFIA property tax exemption for less-developed areas will be extended to a further 131 settlements, covering 12,855 in total.

Firms will be allowed to claim depreciation allowances over six years, rather than over ten.

Finally, the Government has announced, on tax fairness grounds, the rate of tax on corporate profits distributed to members of boards of directors or to senior executives will be raised on amounts exceeding EUR60,000 to 15 percent, up from five percent.
