Global Daily Tax News, Aruba Announces Tax Enforcement Focus In Latest Budget, (Sep 10, 2026)
The Government of Aruba did not announce an implementation date for value-added tax, in its newly released Budget, and instead announced it will pursue a number of tax enforcement initiatives.
The introduction of a value-added tax in place of the existing turnover tax (BBO) and health levy (BAZV) was earlier discussed. However, talks on implementation stalled in recent years, following the last elections held in December 2024.
Instead, the Government has announced that it will seek to enforce tax obligations on the short-term rentals sector, to ensure these businesses are current with their direct and indirect tax contributions.
Further, the Government has said it will implement a national plan to tackle the informal economy and enable some workers working without a residence permit to regularize their affairs and settle outstanding taxes.
