Cybersecurity Policy Report, Florida Governor Signs Law Creating Cybersecurity Grant Program, (May 26, 2026)
Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis (R.) has signed into law a bill to create a grant program to help local governments strengthen cybersecurity.
HB 1085 establishes the Local Government Cybersecurity Protection Program to be administered by the Florida Digital Service (FLDS) to assist eligible local governments in mitigating and defending against cybersecurity threats, including ransomware incidents, by providing grants for information technology commodities and services.
The program will be administered based on objective eligibility and evaluation criteria, with a preference given to fiscally constrained counties as defined by state law.
The new law directs FLDS to enter into data-sharing agreements with local governments to facilitate the collection and exchange of security-related information, supporting the detection, prevention, and response to cybersecurity incidents. It also allows FLDS to apply for and accept federal funds or grants and allows local governments to purchase services and commodities from contracts executed by FLDS.
The program will sunset on July 1, 2031.
