The chain operates 189 stores across the Chicago metro area, as well as in Iowa and Indiana.

Jewel Food Stores, Inc., and American Drug Stores LLC (Jewel-Osco) reached a voluntary agreement with the EEOC to resolve allegations the company denied reasonable accommodations to employees with disabilities. Following an EEOC investigation, Jewel-Osco agreed to provide $1.95 million in monetary relief to affected individuals and implement nonmonetary remedies, including state-of-the-art disability training for management and policy revisions to strengthen compliance with the ADA.

Jewel-Osco, headquartered in Itasca, Illinois, operates 189 stores across Illinois, Iowa, and Indiana. The company has previously been recognized for its inclusive hiring practices, particularly its integration of employees with intellectual and developmental disabilities into essential roles.

EEOC Acting Chair Andrea Lucas praised the company’s actions, stating, “Many accommodations cost little or nothing We commend Jewel-Osco for reaffirming their commitment to upholding the tenets of this important law.”
