Global Daily Tax News, Czech Republic To Extend BEPS MLI To 19 More DTAs, (Sep 20, 2024)
The Czech Republic has decided to expand coverage of the BEPS multilateral instrument to a further 19 double tax agreements.
The BEPS MLI enables countries to modify their existing tax treaties to include measures developed under the OECD/G20 BEPS project without having to individually renegotiate these treaties. The instrument implements minimum standards to counter treaty abuse, prevent the artificial avoidance of permanent establishment status, neutralize the effects of hybrid mismatch arrangements, and improve tax dispute resolution mechanisms.
The decision extends the provisions to the Czech Republic's treaties with the following territories, providing also they have listed their double tax agreement with the Czech Republic and the BEPS MLI has entered into effect for the other territory:
Albania;
