The company is providing replacement kits made of stainless steel.

School Specialty LLC has recalled about 15,616 plastic tip restraint kits included with Childcraft furniture because the kits can break or degrade, posing tip-over and entrapment hazards that could result in serious injury or death. This is a hidden defect because consumers who purchase and install this product may be under a false sense of security that their furniture is safe from a tip-over incident (CPSC Recall Notice, No. 26-540 (June 11, 2026)).

Incidents and injuries. No incidents or injuries have been reported.

Product description. The recall involves plastic tip restraint kits, also referred to as furniture straps, that were packaged with Childcraft furniture sold by School Specialty. The kits were included in the furniture boxes along with installation instructions. Each kit contains two white plastic brackets or mounts, a white plastic cable zip tie, two pairs of screws of different lengths, and drywall anchors. A complete list of affected furniture and item numbers is available on CPSC’s website.

The furniture was manufactured in China and sold through School Specialty stores nationwide and online at www.schoolspecialty.com from July 2024 through December 2025 for between $1,250 and $4,800.

Remedy. Consumers are instructed to stop using the recalled plastic tip restraints immediately and keep children away from furniture secured with the straps until a replacement is installed. School Specialty is providing free replacement tip restraint kits made of stainless steel and is directly contacting purchasers to provide replacements. Consumers should dispose of the recalled plastic components after installing the new hardware.
