December 20, 2024. CPSC has issued a direct final rule updating the mandatory safety standard for soft infant and toddler carriers to incorporate by reference the most recent version of the voluntary standard, ASTM F2236-24, Standard Consumer Safety Specification for Soft Infant and Toddler Carriers. The rule will take effect on February 22, 2025, unless CPSC receives a significant adverse comment by December 20, 2024. If such a comment is received, the Commission will publish a notice in the Federal Register withdrawing the direct final rule before its effective date (CPSC Direct final rule, 89 Fed. Reg. 91545 (Nov. 20, 2024)).

January 21, 2025. CPSC has proposed a rule to establish a safety standard for neck floats. The rule would add test requirements for conditioning, buoyancy, fastening systems, restraining systems, and neck openings, and would update marking, labeling, and literature requirements (CPSC Notice of proposed rulemaking, 89 Fed. Reg. 91586 (Nov. 20, 2024)).
