The firm is offering a replacement product.

Deuter USA has issued a recall for approximately 5,080 Kid Comfort, Kid Comfort Pro, and Kid Comfort Active Child Carriers. The recall comes after reports that the hinges on the foldable rear kickstand support leg can crack or break, posing a significant fall hazard. Consumers are advised to immediately stop using the recalled carriers and contact Deuter for a free replacement (CPSC Recall Notice, No. 25-256, May 8, 2025).

Incidents and injuries. To date, there have been 13 reports of the hinges on the carriers cracking and breaking, though no injuries have been reported.

Product description. The recall pertains to specific models of the child carriers, which are designed like a backpack with a foldable frame with hinges. The affected models were sold in various colors including maroon, green forest, blue midnight, and teal, with the “deuter” brand and product name printed on the back. The recall targets carriers with production codes ending in 0123, 1223, or 0423, found on a tag inside the main storage pocket at the bottom of the carrier.

The recalled child carriers were available for purchase at various retailers including REI and Bass Pro, as well as online through deuter.com, Amazon.com, and other websites. They were sold between March 2023 and March 2025, with prices ranging from $240 to $370. The carriers were manufactured in Vietnam and imported by Deuter USA, based in Longmont, Colorado.

Remedy. Consumers in possession of the recalled carriers should contact Deuter directly to receive a replacement. Deuter has set up a dedicated recall page where affected customers can fill out a recall form, print a prepaid return shipping label, and find additional information on how to proceed. The company is also reaching out to all known purchasers.

Customer contact. For more information, consumers can contact Deuter toll-free at 877-384-9252 from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. MT Monday through Friday; by email at [email protected]; or online at https://www.deuter.com/us-en/service/kid-comfort-recall or https://www.deuter.com/us-en/contact and click on “Kid Comfort Recall” at the bottom of the page.
