Global Daily Tax News, Chile Extends Deadline For Taxpayers In Flood-Hit Region, (Aug 31, 2026)
Chile's tax authority has announced tax relief measures for taxpayers affected by recent flooding and mudslides.
The relief is for taxpayers in Tocopilla and Maria Elena and provides that monthly tax returns and payments (forms 29 and 50) may be filed by November 30, 2026, without penalties or interest.
"The SII established the automatic forgiveness of fines and interest payments for late VAT and monthly tax payments to taxpayers located in the municipalities most affected by this catastrophe that particularly affected the Antofagasta region," the tax agency said. "The decision is due to the declaration of a state of constitutional emergency due to a public calamity in the province of Tocopilla in that region."
The Antofagasta region is the world's leading copper and second-largest lithium-producing region.
