The CFTC has formally announced the renewal of the Agricultural Advisory Committee (AAC), a group sponsored by Michael Selig, the Commission’s chairman.
According to an announcement published July 20 in the Federal Register, the AAC will provide the Commission with advice and recommendations on a wide variety of issues, including those affecting agricultural producers, consumers, processors and lenders. Also under the committee’s purview: derivatives intermediaries, buy-side representatives and exchanges, regulators, and others interested in or affected by the agricultural derivatives markets.
Meets next week. The CFTC said the AAC’s first meeting is scheduled for July 29, 2026, from 1:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. ET.
According to the Commission’s published agenda for the meeting, the AAC plans to discuss topics related to the Basel III proposal, risk management tools for agricultural end-users, 24/7 trading and emerging markets and recent CFTC activity in the agricultural industry.
Committee members. As announced by the CFTC last April, appointed members of the 36-member committee range from industry to exchange participants. Included are Gabe Afolayan, vice president, Soybean Merchandising & Trading, Cargill, Dr. Justin Benavidez, chief economist, United States Department of Agriculture, Gerry Corcoran, chief executive officer, R.J. O’Brien, a StoneX company, Derek Sammann, global head of Commodities, Options, and International Markets, CME Group, Inc., and Brad Sullivan, chief operating officer, ICE Futures US.
The AAC is scheduled to operate for two years from the date of its renewal unless the Commission terminates it earlier.
