The Senate Committee on the Judiciary has announced that it has scheduled a full committee hearing entitled “Examining the Comcast-Time Warner Cable Merger and the Impact on Consumers” for Wednesday, April 2, 2014 at 10:00 a.m., in Room 226 of the Dirksen Senate Office Building. Chairman Senator Patrick Leahy (D, Vermont) will preside over the hearing.

Comcast announced last month that it was purchasing Time Warner Cable, resulting in the merger of the two dominant cable companies in the market. The Department of Justice Antitrust Division is currently reviewing the transaction.

“Millions of Americans rely on cable connectivity to receive the programs they love and to access the Internet at the fast speed needed as we conduct more of our lives online,” Leahy noted. “The pending merger is an important opportunity to examine how Americans access these valuable services as the video and online marketplace continue to evolve.”
