Last week, Japan-based, automotive lighting manufacturer Stanley Electric Co. Ltd. entered its guilty plea in the government’s ongoing price fixing investigation of the auto parts industry. The federal district court in Detroit entered judgment in the matter on January 23 (U.S. v. Stanley Electric Co. Ltd., Case 2:13-cr-20884).

Stanley Electric, which manufactures and sells automotive high-intensity discharge (HID) headlamps, was charged in December 2013 for its role in a conspiracy to fix prices of lamp ballasts installed in automobiles. HID headlamps contain automotive HID lamp ballasts.

At that time, the Department of Justice announced that the company had agreed to plead guilty and to pay a $1.44 million criminal fine to resolve the charges. On January 23, the court accepted the plea agreement and sentenced the defendant pursuant to its terms.
